SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Following a productive meeting between California Council for Affordable Housing (CCAH) leadership and Secretary Becerra in June, CCAH PAC today released an updated voter guide and announced its endorsement of Xavier Becerra for Governor of California. The organization cited his commitment to addressing the state’s housing affordability crisis and his strong understanding of the policies needed to increase the production of affordable housing as the drivers behind the endorsement.
“CCAH was impressed by Secretary Becerra’s deep understanding of California’s housing challenges and his willingness to engage directly with affordable housing leaders,” said Jenna Abbott, Executive Director of the California Council for Affordable Housing. “Our June meeting was both thoughtful and solutions-oriented. Mr. Becerra recognizes that California cannot solve its affordability crisis without dramatically increasing affordable housing

production, reducing unnecessary barriers to development, and creating an environment where affordable housing can be built more efficiently. We believe he will be a strong partner in advancing policies that help more Californians access safe, stable, and affordable homes.”
Housing has emerged as a central pillar of Becerra’s campaign. He has called for expanding affordable housing production, streamlining permitting and approval processes, enforcing local housing obligations, and utilizing state resources to help accelerate housing development. His campaign has emphasized the need to address California’s housing shortage, which continues to drive housing costs higher for working families across the state. Becerra has also pledged to reduce bureaucratic delays that increase development costs and slow housing construction, while holding jurisdictions accountable for meeting their housing responsibilities under state law.
“California’s housing shortage is one of the most pressing issues facing our state,” said Geoff Brown, Board President for CCAH. “Secretary Becerra understands that affordable housing is essential infrastructure. His focus on increasing housing supply, accelerating affordable housing projects, and ensuring communities meet their housing commitments aligns with the priorities our members work on every day.”
CCAH leadership and members look forward to continuing their engagement with Secretary Becerra and his campaign, including participation in an upcoming fundraising event on July 15. “CCAH and our PAC are dedicated to expanding affordable housing opportunities throughout California and we are committed to supporting leaders who understand both the urgency of the crisis and the importance of practical solutions,” added Jenna Abbott. “We are proud to endorse Xavier Becerra for Governor and look forward to working with him to advance policies that create more affordable homes for California families.”
