A Message From the Executive Director: A Season of Gratitude and Opportunity

As we wrap up November and rush headlong into the holiday season, I find myself reflecting on the meaning of Thanksgiving. It’s more than a day of turkey, football, and pumpkin pie—it’s a reminder to pause and appreciate the people who matter most in our lives. Whether that’s family gathered around the table, friends who feel like family, or colleagues who share your passion and purpose, these connections are what sustain us.

This year, my Thanksgiving was simple and perfect. My husband, Jon, and I spent the evening with our dear friends Tom and Carla—just the four of us. It was a spontaneous invite from Tom that came just as Jon and I were heading out the door to brave the crowds at the grocery store. We were only too happy to park that trip for later and happily accepted! Instead of the traditional turkey, we enjoyed some yummy appetizers,

an amazing salad, green beans, and bacon-wrapped chicken breasts filled with pesto (and yes, they were amazing!). My contribution was dessert: homemade pecan and pumpkin pies made from family recipes, topped with far too much whipped cream. It was a cozy, laughter-filled night that reminded me how important it is to slow down and savor these moments.

At CCAH, we are deeply grateful for the community we’re building together. Our board members, our engaged membership, and our partners across the industry share a common goal: creating affordable housing for Californians who need it most. That commitment is powerful, and it’s making a real difference. Just look at the progress we’ve made this year. Through the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee (CTCAC), about 28,000 affordable units have been awarded tax credits in 2025. That’s 28,000 homes for seniors, families, our workforce, and individuals who might otherwise struggle to find a safe, stable, and affordable place to live. These projects will transform lives and strengthen communities across the state.

As we celebrate this season of gratitude, I am reminded of why we do this work. Every unit built, every policy advanced, every partnership formed brings us closer to a California where everyone has a place to call home. Thank you for your membership and thank you for being part of this mission—and for making a difference every day.

And if you’re not yet a member of CCAH, I’d like to personally invite you to join us. More voices equals more impact and more momentum to keep our State moving toward opportunities for solutions. And speaking of opportunities, don’t forget to register for the Cal HFA Roundtable. You can find out more about that here.

In gratitude, partnership, and a wish that your pie always comes smothered in whipped cream.
