A Message from The Executive Director – Partnerships are the Key to Progress in Affordable Housing

At the California Council for Affordable Housing (CCAH), we know that addressing California’s housing crisis is not something any one organization – or even one sector – can achieve alone. The scale of the challenge is simply too great. Rising costs, limited land availability, regulatory barriers, and funding shortages all intersect to make building and preserving affordable housing complex and urgent.

That’s why partnership is at the heart of our work.

Whether it’s joining forces with state and local policymakers, supporting housing focused candidates through our PAC, collaborating with allied trade associations, or working hand-in-hand with nonprofit, production focused, and market rate developers, our ability to move the needle on affordable housing is amplified when we stand together. Advocacy is strongest when it reflects not just one voice but a coalition speaking with clarity, conviction, and a shared vision for the future of California.

Every legislative victory we’ve achieved, every barrier we’ve helped dismantle, and every new door that opens for California families has been the result of collective effort. Some efforts we’ve led, some we’ve been in the supporting cast, and others we’ve quietly supported from the wings. It is the combined expertise of our board, our members, the persistence of our allies, and the commitment of our broader housing community that fuels change. And we invite you to join us in this quest.

The truth is simple: there is strength in numbers. When we align, we show decision-makers that affordable housing isn’t a fringe issue – it’s a priority that touches every community and every Californian.

As we look ahead, CCAH will continue to expand partnerships, deepen collaboration, and seek new ways to amplify the voices of those working tirelessly for housing affordability. Together, we can push beyond incremental progress and create real, lasting solutions to California’s housing shortage.

Thank you for being part of this effort. With your support and with our allies by our side, we can continue to transform challenges into opportunities, and opportunities into homes.

Now is the time to get involved. Join us as a member, attend and / or sponsor upcoming CCAH events, add your voice to our advocacy campaigns, and help us grow our membership so that together we can be an even stronger force for change.

One of the best opportunities to see partnership in action is at our upcoming Fall Conference in San Diego November 7-9. This year, we’ll not only gather for critical discussions on policy and strategy, but we’ll also host housing tours that showcase innovative developments making a real difference in people’s lives. These tours are more than site visits – they are living examples of what’s possible when public, private, and nonprofit partners come together with creativity and determination.

Your participation ensures that CCAH remains a powerful partner in the fight for housing that all Californians can afford.

In partnership,

Jenna Abbott, Executive Director
