A Message from the Executive Director: It’s Time To Lean In!

As we wrap up an incredible year for California’s affordable housing community, I want to take a moment to share what’s next—and why I’m so excited about the work ahead. The momentum is building for another great year in the legislature and we’re aiming to start January strong.

First up, mark your calendars for January 28, 2026 which is when we’ll be hosting a Developer’s Round Table in San Diego in partnership with CalHFA. This isn’t just another meeting—with new leadership in place, it’s a chance to build stronger connections between CalHFA and the affordable housing development community. We’ll talk financing strategies, share feedback, and explore ways to make projects happen faster and smarter.

Space is limited, audience is developers only, and CCAH members will be given priority—so don’t wait. 👉 Register here.

While the clock on 2025 is fast running down and the legislature is on break, behind the scenes, we’re still working hard. Paul and the policy committee are putting the finishing touches on our 2026 legislative priorities – actionable plans that will translate into legislation aimed at removing barriers to affordable housing development. From streamlining approvals to expanding financing tools, we’re focused on clearing the path for more homes where they’re needed most.

Speaking of legislative priorities, last month, Paul and I were delighted to join the Home Builders Alliance retreat and planning session in Newport Beach, where we connected with several allied organizations. The conversations centered on partnerships that can amplify our collective impact in the year ahead. We made some new connections and brainstormed with some existing ones so expect to see more joint efforts as we work together to tackle California’s housing challenges. I’ve often said that most of us who do this work can walk 85% of the way together on almost any issue and that notion was on full display as a group of almost 50 representatives from housing orgs throughout the state worked jointly on what’s next. It was exciting and energizing and we’re leaning in!

I’m also delighted to announce that our recent PAC fundraiser event in San Diego was another highlight. It resulted in official endorsements of Eleni Kounalakis for State Treasurer and Fiona Ma for Lieutenant Governor.

You can read more about our reasoning in supporting these two leaders who understand housing and finance like few others here for Fiona Ma and here for Eleni Kounalakis. Their passion for affordable housing made it an easy decision. More endorsements and a full calendar of events are planned for 2026—policy forums, networking opportunities, and educational sessions designed to keep you informed and connected.

Finally, if you’re not yet a member of CCAH, now is the perfect time to join. Membership gives you access to these exclusive events, advocacy opportunities, and a powerful network dedicated to advancing affordable housing in California. Thank you for your continued support—I can’t wait to work alongside you in the year ahead.

Warmly and In Partnership,

Jenna Abbott
